As the only luxury camp within the park, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is one of the most remote and atmospheric camps that you will find in Africa. Found deep in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the camp is surrounded by a theatrical landscape made up of volcanoes, valleys, waterfalls, lakes and dramatic mountain ranges.
The camp consists of just 8 spacious and stylish tents, ensuring your exclusivity, that are well appointed and offer views straight into the canopy. You may even spot some rare forest species from the comfort of your bath tub or private deck. The main areas of the camp are warm and welcoming, being made up of a lounge and bar area, dining area and mini spa.
These days will see you tracking the critically endangered mountain gorillas. This is a very intimate experience, unlike any other game viewing on a typical safari. It is also an opportunity afforded to only a few as 8 visitors are allowed to visit each group of gorillas a day.
You will have to tackle the forest’s dense undergrowth, high altitudes, and its steep and slippery trails to find these gentle and highly endangered primates. Upon reaching these relaxed gorillas and gazing into their intelligent eyes, that are seemingly a reflection of yours, you will feel a connection that you haven’t felt before. A truly out of this world experience.
Once reaching these fascinating primates you will only be allowed a maximum of one hour with them before you begin your trek back to camp. The duration of this could be anywhere between 3 and 9 hours depending on the gorilla’s whereabouts.
Arriving back to camp and sipping a cocktail with your feet up will be the perfect end to your day.
This morning you will bid farewell to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and transfer by road back to Kihihi Airport for your chartered flight back to Entebbe Aiport for your onward journey, along with all your unforgettable experiences and photographs.
