On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by Kenya Bush representative and transferred by road to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to Chyulu. Upon your arrival at the Chyulu airstrip, you will be transferred to your beautiful lodge.
Tucked away between Kenya’s Tsavo East and Amboseli National Parks, in the heart of the Chyulu Hills, set on a gentle sloping hillside with magnificent vistas over the plains to Mount Kilimanjaro is ol Donyo Lodge. The eco-friendly lodge houses a maximum of just 20 guests, ensuring your exclusivity, in a series of unique cottages that seemingly rise up from the rugged landscape. All the cottages have their own terraces, where intimate star beds can be made up, and most have their own swimming pools.
The lodge is complete with a sumptuous lounge and dining area as well as breath-taking views across the vast landscape.
Spend these days exploring the enchanting hills and all that the surrounding land has to offer.
You will be awoken early with tea or coffee as the rising sun’s rays glisten on the ice-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will leave the lodge either on horseback, on foot or in one of the lodge’s open top Land Rovers in search of the teeming wildlife.
Whilst exploring this area, rich in wildlife and home to some of Africa’s last giant elephant, you can expect to see: oryx, gazelle, zebra, eland, giraffe and wildebeest roaming the grassy plains as well as the lion, cheetah and leopard that they are all trying to avoid.
Enjoy a bush breakfast or ride, drive or walk back to the lodge for breakfast. After lunch and tea, either poolside or as a picnic up in the hills, you will head out into the open land again to uncover the wildlife that comes out as the sun starts to disappear.
Enjoy dinner back at the lodge with the ever-present sounds of the African night.
After your last breakfast in the Chyulu Hills, you will transfer back to the airstrip for your chartered flight to Wilson Airport. Upon your arrival you will connect on to a scheduled flight to the Masai Mara by sky. You will be met and warmly welcomed into this iconic park and transferred to your lodge.
Mara Plains Camp, a combination of romance, adventure, discovery and exploration, lies alongside the Ntiakitiak River in the heart of the 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy bordering the Masai Mara National Park.
Arriving at the camp is a journey in itself as you cross a bridge over the river, walk through a thick, riverine forest and up a small slope to some giant steps where you will be met by views of an endless horizon. The camp has taken into account its magnificent location, in the middle of one of the richest wild ecosystems in the world, and used this to inspire its design. The decor reflects the essence of East Africa and its influences – the Masai and Arab culture.
The Masai Mara is one of the top wildlife destinations in Africa and is Kenya’s flagship conservation area. The reserve is named after the Masai tribe that inhabits the region and the Mara River that serves as a permanent water source throughout the park. From being able to witness the famous Great Migration between July and November to observing the calving season – the Masai Mara offers absolutely unsurpassed game viewing throughout the year.
On your first morning here, you will you will rise with the sun in a hot air balloon and be taken in whichever direction the wind is blowing. Peering over the basket at the dotted wildlife below you in this special park with endless vistas is an experience we assure you won’t forget.
Your game viewing here will offer you the opportunity to spot: elephant, Black rhino, hippo, wildebeest, zebra, hartebeest, various antelope and gazelle as well as the lion, leopard, cheetah and crocodile looking for a meal.
After your last breakfast in the Masai Mara, you will transfer back to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Wilson Airport. Upon your arrival you will connect on to a flight to Kilimanjaro Airport where you will then connect on to your scheduled flight to the Manyara airstrip. After being warmly welcomed, you will transfer by road to your lodge situated in the private concession area that borders both Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park.
The lodge, Chem Chem Lodge, is nestled on the picturesque western side of the wildlife concession. Consisting of just 8 well-appointed and secluded tents that evoke the the spirit of a vintage safari, Chem Chem guarantees an exclusive safari experience. The lodge’s opulent main house consists of a full service gourmet restaurant, fire places, a bar, lounge and fully stocked library as well as a viewing deck with awe-inspiring views over Lake Manyara. Hidden amidst the trees is an inviting pool and the Chem Chem Amani Spa.
This morning, you will once again, rise with the sun as your hot air balloon floats skyward and is taken in whichever direction the wind is blowing. You will glide over ancient baobab trees, large herds of game and, if you’re lucky enough, gaze down at a reclusive leopard hunting. You will touch down for a rustic, hot bush-breakfast before floating back to camp.
The rest of the day may be spent at your own leisurely pace before your afternoon game viewing activity which may be anything from a game drive to walking with the Maasai. The concept of ‘slow safari’ was born at Chem Chem Lodge and the ethos behind this is that a safari should be a tangible, sensual experience beyond the confines of a vehicle. You can expect an in-depth understanding of this diverse area from the dedicated staff at Chem Chem Lodge.
After breakfast at Chem Chem Lodge, you will transfer back to the Manyara airstrip for your scheduled flight to Zanzibar. Upon your arrival at Zanzibar Airport you will be met and transferred to the jetty. A Mnemba Lodge boat will waiting to pick you up and cross the azure Indian Ocean waters to Mnemba Island.
Mnemba Island is an award-winning, barefoot beach paradise that accommodates up to just 20 guests. The romantic, private hideaway boasts 10 palm-frond bandas where your only disturbance may be from a curious antelope at sundown. The spacious bandas make use of natural fabrics and traditional woodcarvings to seemingly blend into the surrounds.
Open thatched dining and sitting areas are spread throughout the lodge making for ideal spots to watch the sun sink below the azure waters of the warm Indian Ocean. Once the African sky has been dotted with bright stars and the ocean’s waves are reflecting the moonlight, dinner will be served on the beach.
Spend these days on your idyllic island doing as much, or as little, as you’d like.
Awake in the mornings with a gentle knock on your door. Shortly thereafter, a hearty breakfast will be delivered directly to your banda. The day is then yours – from scuba diving and snorkeling the amazingly, indescribable reefs to sea kayaking and fishing, paddle-boarding to luxurious yacht excursions, we assure you that you’ll never be without anything to do, unless that’s what you want. Perhaps you prefer your solitude and would like a private sala set up on the beach or a private dinner set up in a secluded area of the forest.
Exploring the ocean will offer you the opportunity to see a vast variety of colorful reef fish, humpback whales, dolphins, sharks, rays, and green turtles, who nest here, among many other interesting marine species.
Whilst exploring the island you will discover many bird species, including the rare crab plover, the tiny suni antelope and the endangered Ader’s duiker.
After breakfast and bidding farewell to your luxurious barefooted island lifestyle, you will transfer back to Zanzibar’s Stone Town. You will then be transferred to Zanzibar Airport for your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam for your onward jouney, along with all your amazing memories and photographs.
